“It can be a trap of the photographer to think that his or her best pictures were the ones that were hardest to get.” –Timothy Allen
I originally felt that an iPhone was just a waste of money. Now, after having owned one for the past four years, I can’t imagine life without it. Its camera has gotten to be my favorite of all that I own, because it has lead me to once again shoot things just for the fun of shooting them without the expectations I have of myself while shooting with my professional gear. Shooting random things the way I uniquely saw them was how I ended up falling in love with photography as a kid. I loved being able to show something to somebody in a way they had never seen it before. The iPhone has me doing this almost daily now, and surprisingly, some of the work I do with it gets much more of a reaction out of people than some of my commercial work that takes much more skill to create. The limitations of the iPhone camera force me to approach photography differently. It forces me to work and see within its limitations, and this has been almost like a breath of fresh air to me.
Instagram has gotten to be my favorite social networking site and is a daily source of inspiration to me. The following shots are some of my favorites I’ve posted there, and are a visual diary of my recent life, in chronological order.
